I feel you on this but I think that’s a lot to put on listeners. The system is broken bro. Record companies have full control over these platforms and what they say goes. Imposing a monetization threshold, classifying music like sleep & meditation as “functional music” & demonetizing it. They’re a few steps away from killing off music distribution from Distrokid & Tunecore in general. We don’t control the algorithms. On Spotify, I can’t even dislike a song. They serve up tracks, I’m working so I don’t make it to my phone in time to skip, I get the song more even though I hate it. What’s needed is some type of artist union and a class action exposing the anti trust and anti competitive tactics of UMG and Spotify.
One detail. Spotify doesn’t care if you actually listen to the music. To them, mindless streams are just the same, or even better.
